Jay Marett has served as Director of Emergency Management for Greenville County since September 2019. Jay brings to his position more than 25 years of public safety experience. He has served in multiple divisions within the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office including uniform patrol, the office of professional standards, and criminal investigations before being appointed to Deputy Director of Emergency Management in 2008.
Jay is a graduate of Leadership Greenville Class 40 as well as the 2011 class of Leadership South Carolina. He holds the Certified Emergency Manager certification from the South Carolina Emergency Management Association (SCEMA) and was given the Outstanding Contribution to the Profession award from SCEMA in 2012 and 2016. Jay has been awarded the Medal of Valor from the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office as well as the South Carolina Sheriff’s Association. He holds an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Greenville Technical College, a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Limestone College where he graduated Cum Laude, and a Master of Public Administration Degree from Clemson University.
